Freequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to change the liner ?
The downtime is only 1-2 days, and then your pool is ready for the water.
Why Should You Choose a Pool with a Vinyl Lining ?
Vinyl feels good! Vinyl is very smooth and luxurious. It won’t rough up your feet or suit. No more scuffed up toes! The interior of a vinyl-lined pool is softer and smoother than a plaster pool. The vinyl is not subject to scale formation or etching that is commonly found in plaster. At Barthlow Pools., we install a layer of foam to the gunite walls to serve as a buffer between the gunite and vinyl. Your hands and feet will feel the difference and the satin-smooth finish will never cause scratches or snagged bathing suits either.
- Fewer chemicals, less frequent changes: Vinyl is a smooth, non-porous material. Because it is not porous, fewer chemicals are required and the water will remain in balance longer. Fewer chemicals mean lower maintenance costs.
- Less long-term maintenance: Under normal conditions, a vinyl pool does not need to be drained, acid-washed or re-painted during its lifespan.
- Choice of colors and patterns: Vinyl liners come in a wide array of colors and patterns. (See some of the choices available on the Liner Patterns page.)
- Eventual liner replacement provides a brand new surface: A vinyl liner will last about the same length of time as a plaster surface. Instead of re-plastering over an old surface, the old vinyl liner is removed and replaced with a brand new one. The downtime is only 1-2 days, and then your pool is ready for the water.
Why choose pavers ?
Attractiveness – Many homeowners consider pavers a much more attractive way to go than asphalt and poured concrete. Concrete pavers come in a vast array of colors, shapes, sizes and textures. Concrete paver colors include beautiful beige, coral, variegated or darker blends, as well as blends with flashed tones to harmonize with a home’s exterior cladding. They can easily be put into patterns that complement the architectural style of your home because there’s such a wide variety of style available.
Durability – Concrete pavers should maintain their beauty and strength for a number of years when installed correctly. Other pavements, such as asphalt or poured concrete, typically experience shorter lives.
Maintenance – Concrete pavers are easier to maintain and last longer without needing to be repaired. In fact, factory-made pavers last for decades and need practically no maintenance when installed to ICPI guidelines. If a concrete paver becomes stained or broken, it can be easily replaced individually without patches.
Cost – The cost of concrete pavers is substantially less than natural stone, and concrete pavers provide an equally as attractive appearance. When factoring in maintenance costs and project durability, concrete pavers are also extremely affordable compared to other outdoor surface choices, such as poured concrete.
Safety – Pavers provide a safe, slip-resistant surface for pedestrian, vehicular and pool projects.
How much water can be safely removed from an in-ground vinyl pool and for how long?
Once filled and used, you do not want to drain an in-ground vinyl lined pool. There are many reasons not to drain the pool. The main reason is that over time the liner seems to become less pliable and when the pool is drained the liner contracts. When you refill the pool the liner does not expand to the previous shape and often rips. This is an expensive error. The other reason is that the weight and pressure of the water in the pool provides structural integrity, helping to prevent the walls from collapsing.
What should I do before installing a fence on my property?
Check about zoning ordinances and building codes in your area with your municipal authority. In addition, discuss your fencing plans with your neighbors to make sure that your fence isn’t an intrusion.
